Michael Jordan and his wife, Juanita, filed for divorce Friday after 17 years of marriage. "Michael and Juanita Jordan mutually and amicably decided to end their 17 year marriage," the couple said in a statement issued through their lawyers. "A judgment for dissolution of their marriage was entered today. There will be no further statements."
Juanita Jordan previously filed for divorce in January 2002, but withdrew her petition a month later when the couple announced they were attempting a reconciliation. During her last divorce petition, Jordan said attempts to reconcile their marriage had failed and future ones "would be impractical and not in the best interests of the family." The couple met at a Chicago restaurant during his second season with the Bulls and were married Sept. 2, 1989, in Las Vegas. They have three children: Jeffrey, Marcus and Jasmine.
The 43-year-old Jordan, a part-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, led the Bulls to six NBA titles and was a five-time league MVP. He lives in Highland Park, Ill.

No stranger to the penile system, former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is back in lock-up. This time around he was arrested early Friday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of cocaine.
Tyson was nabbed by police after leaving a nightclub and almost hitting a sheriff's vehicle. Once stopped, he failed a series of sobriety tests and then police allegedly found cocaine on his person and in his ride. Tyson spent the night in jail and has a date with a judge Friday afternoon to set bail.
Kids, this is one Mike that you don't want to be like.

R.C: How do you feel about Dreamgirls getting the Hollywood treatment?

SLR: It's hard. Believe or not in the 1980's when Dreamgirls opened we completely changed theater, we changed who came to the theater, and who was interested in theater. And now 25 years later, people find it so easy to act like we didn't do what we did. Loretta Divine and Vondie Curtis Hall were in the original company, there were some great folks who are still working today.

R.C: How do you feel about Beyonce portraying the role you originally bought to life - Deena Jones?

SLR: It's interesting, when Tom Eyen who is the creator, had this idea, he said that the Dreams, have to be three obviously black girls. Why? Because America will always go for that light, bright, long haired black girl because they will feel comfortable building her up, since they see themselves in her.
But for the obviously black girl, if she makes it, she deserves to be right there. Because they aren't trying to push her, that's why the Dreams had to be three obviously black girls.
So when they cast Beyonce in the role of Deena Jones. I said, "Wow, this is exactly what Tom Eyen said would happen." They going to take to that light, bright blackish blonde girl because they feel comfortable with her. That's the reality.

R.C: Who would you have cast as Deena Jones?

SLR: That's hard because the industry isn't pushing her, so you don't have an obvious one to pick from. The closest one I can think of, that's an obvious black girl with that glamour thing to her is Lauryn Hill. Heather Headley is kind of close but she's not Deena. You know Deena is Diana Ross, she's a drama girl, an out right glamour girl.

JAMES BROWN DIES AT 73

Pioneering R&B legend James "The Godfather of Soul" Brown died early today (Dec. 25) from an unknown illness in Atlanta, GA.
According to his representatives, Brown, 73, was admitted to Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday, suffering from pneumonia. "The most difficult thing is for me to stand here without him. We were a team," Charles Bobbit, Brown's personal manager, told reporters Monday.
Pausing to fight back tears, Bobbit said he was at Brown's bedside when he died.
Brown told him, "I'm going away tonight."
Then he took three long, quiet breaths, and closed his eyes, Bobbit said.
He died around 1:45 a.m.
"We really don't know at this point what he died of," Brown's agent Frank Copsidas told the Associated Press.

Hard-partying Miss USA salvaged her tiara by heading off to rehab yesterday - as Miss Nevada USA was fired by Donald Trump's pageant for some raunchy photos.
Trump, who owns the pageant, said Katie Rees, 22, deserved to be dumped for pictures that surfaced of her licking other women's breasts and tongues, flashing her breasts and thong, and simulating oral sex with women and men.
"Did you see those pictures?" Trump roared to the Daily News yesterday. "Unlike Miss USA, who made some bad choices, Miss Nevada is a real problem. . . . It's a much different thing, and a much bigger problem."
Rees' lawyer Mario Torres said last night that she was wrong to pose for the salacious shots three years ago, when she was 19. But he said Rees deserves another chance - and may have grounds for a lawsuit.
"Ms. Rees clearly acknowledges that her actions were not appropriate and regrets that she failed to clearly think about the consequences of those actions," Torres said, adding, "We find it inequitable that Ms. Conner was able to retain her crown and that Ms. Rees is not able to do the same."But one of her friends in the Tampa area, where the pictures were snapped, told The News that the photos weren't a shock.
"Those pictures don't surprise me - she was always showing off her boobs. She's a really sweet girl. She's just not a very smart girl," the friend said. "But I feel horrible about it. I don't think that's fair at all. She deserves a second chance. I don't think she's out doing cocaine or anything."
Rees was bounced on the same day Miss USA Tara Conner entered the Caron Treatment Center rehab clinic in rural Pennsylvania, which in the past has helped celebrity addicts Liza Minnelli and Steven Tyler.

And it came a day after Miss Teen USA Katie Blair was dumped as Mothers Against Drunk Driving's national spokeswoman for her underage drinking in New York bars.
Caron patients typically spend their first several days in detox, then two to three months in an Alcoholics Anonymous-based program to confront their addictions, a spokeswoman said.
Conner drank heavily, snorted cocaine and slept around in New York nightlife, sources said - but Trump gave her a second chance after she tearfully apologized and promised to go to rehab.

*Mike Evans, best known for his role as Lionel Jefferson on "All In he Family" and in the first three seasons of its spin-off "The Jeffersons," died peacefully with family, on December 14, 2006 after a battle with throat cancer, said his niece Dr. Chrystal Evans. He was 57.
Evans was also the co-creator of 70's sitcom "Good Times" with Eric Monte. Ralph Carter’s character on the program shared his name.
As an actor, Evans also appeared in the TV shows "Rich Man, Poor Man," "Match Game" and "The Richard Pryor Special." His big screen appearances include "The Voyage of the Yes," where he co-starred with Desi Arnez, Jr. More recently, he appeared in "Walker, Texas Ranger."
Monte said of Evans: "I am deeply and profoundly indebted to Mike. He changed my life forever and inadvertently changed television. There would be no, ‘Sanford and Sons, ‘Good Times,’ ‘The Jeffersons,’ ‘What's Happening,’ ‘The Cosby Show,’ or ‘Cooley High,’ if it had not been for him. More importantly, he was a good friend. I will miss him."
Evans is survived by daughter Tammy, his mother, Annie Sue, his brother Thomas, cousin Harold, and his niece, Chrystal.
Evans will have a private family funeral service and the family requests that condolences be sent t 3717 S. La Brea Avenue #741, Los Angeles, CA 90016.

Rosie O'Donnell had some fiery words for Donald Trump on "The View" yesterday morning, calling him a "snake-oil salesman" after he announced he would not fire Miss USA Tara Conner.
Trump fired back to People.com , calling her "a woman out of control" and saying he planned to sue O'Donnell over her statements questioning his financial well-being.
"You can't make false statements," he said. "Rosie will rue the words she said. I'll most likely sue her for making those false statements -- and it'll be fun. Rosie's a loser. A real loser. I look forward to taking lots of money from my nice fat little Rosie."
The battle began on yesterday's show, when a peeved O'Donnell said: "(He) left the first wife -- had an affair. (He) had kids both times, but he's the moral compass for 20-year-olds in America. Donald, sit and spin, my friend."
O'Donnell aimed her criticism at his comment Tuesday that, "I've always been a believer in second chances. Tara is a good person. Tara has tried hard. Tara is going to be given a second chance."
Conner, who just turned 21, will go to rehab but keep her crown, following allegations of drug and alcohol abuse. A grateful Conner apologized at the press conference, and thanked Trump for his compassion.
O'Donnell was not as touched. After repeatedly saying she "didn't enjoy him," Rosie discussed Trump's finances -- saying he went bankrupt, which Trump denies -- and likened him to the "snake-oil salesman on 'Little House On The Prairie.' This is not a self-made man," O'Donnell said.
When "The View" co-hosts discussed Conner's alleged drug and alcohol abuse, O'Donnell was dismissive, saying, "She went out and she was partying -- doing what Paris and Lindsay do."

FORMER MISS USA KENYA MOORE SPEAKS OUT ABOUT TRUMP DECISION

In 1993 Moore was crowned Miss USA, the second African-American to hold the title. She described her year as the pageant winner as one where she was flanked by a chaperone at all times. Well times, they are a changing. The current Miss USA, Tara Conner, was close to being bumped due to underage drinking, excessive partying and alleged cocaine use. However, to Moore’s chagrin, Trump decided to give Conner a second chance.
“I can’t really make that call as to whether he made the right decision, but I feel he made a compassionate decision instead of the bare bones of the decision he should have made. I think by giving this current Miss USA a opportunity to keep her crown after such harsh behavior – allegedly doing illicit drugs and having this party girl behavior –she’s pretty much getting a slap on her wrist,” she said.
But Moore continued that she’s a little concerned and confused as to how just a few years ago, Trump was poised to fire Miss Universe for gaining 20 lbs., “But here’s a woman who’s being accused of doing cocaine and doing all this other stuff, that is even illegal, but he’s not even considering firing her. It’s just kind of disproportionate to me that it would even be a question that she should be able to keep her crown.”

As to giving Conner a second chance, Moore says she’s had her chance and has lost it. She says that the goals and image of the pageant and organization were sullied.

“What the crown stands for is a woman who holds a certain moral standard, who is an inspiration to young girls, who is a role model. Why give her this chance at this stage? Perhaps let her build her life and redeem herself on her own time – I don’t think while she’s Miss USA.”

I disagree with the decision myself. All contestants know what the deal is with Miss USA pageant. Tara Conner said she wanted to be this ever since she was 13. So she knew what the deal was with this pageant. She has heard of all the scandals from the past and should have prepared herself accordingly. I do believe her crown should have been taken. No one is perfect but out right It only requires a year out of your life. Sounds like someone had a habit and the pageant people didnt know. But that is my $19.20.

Oprah Winfrey is expanding her media reach into reality television.
Her production company is working on two prime-time series for ABC, tentatively titled "Oprah Winfrey's The Big Give" and "Your Money or Your Life," ABC and Harpo Productions announced Friday.
The deal, which marks Winfrey's entrance into series TV, comes about three months after Harpo formed a new television development group for alternative shows, Tim Bennett, the company's president, said in a statement.
"The Big Give" provides money and other resources to 10 people and challenges them to help others in a way that tests the players' ingenuity and passion, according to the companies. The winner gets to realize their "wildest" dream.
"Your Money or Your Life," which is in development, features families who are confronted by a crisis and must change or risk being "consumed by disaster," according to the joint ABC-Harpo release.
Winfrey's move into series TV is "monumental," ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson said in the release. The shows focus on "wish fulfillment and making lives better," he said.

SUPER BLOGGER SUED FOR 7.6 MILLION DOLLARS

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is being stalked by paparazzi in court, at least. X17 Inc., a Los Angeles photo agency known for its images of stars in personal or embarrassing moments, has filed a $7.6 million federal copyright infringement lawsuit against Hilton.
Hilton's Los Angeles-based site, PerezHilton.com, posts tabloid photos of celebs and adds cheeky captions and rudimentary doodles.
The suit claims Hilton used 51 photographs without permission, payment or credit, including images of a pregnant Katie Holmes, Kevin Federline pumping gas and Britney Spears showing her, um, assets.
"We've had trouble with a lot of bloggers," X17 co-owner Brandy Navarre told the Los Angeles Times for a story on its Web site. "But he's the biggest, and the most arrogant and pigheaded about it, frankly.
"He is stealing our images and costing us money every day," she said.
Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, said he believes he has done nothing illegal.
"I am going to vigorously defend myself," he said. "I am willing to step up to the plate and fight for my rights and fight for the rights of all bloggers."

The super producer blames the 25-year-old’s recent DUI arrest and other personal turmoil on the pressures of being in the public eye.
"You get caught up in the peer pressure and the hoopla – it's a media frenzy. It's insane. Success doesn't help," Jones, 73, told People Thursday at a benefit performance of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy's new musical, The Bayou Legend, in Los Angeles.
He continues: "I try to tell the young kids there are two cardinal rules: You should approach creativity with humility and have your success with grace. It's a gift from God. You don't deserve it. You are a vehicle of a higher power. Don't abuse it."
Jones, who goes way back with Nicole, remembers a time when her goals were less superficial.
"I adore Nicole," he said. "I've known her since she was a baby. She's a very smart girl. When she was younger she worked eight hours a day for eight years to become an Olympic figure skater. She's a very talented girl."

The organizers of the Miss USA pageant said Thursday they are evaluating the "behavioral and personal issues" of the reigning winner and will decide her future within a week.
Pageant officials and Donald Trump, who co-owns the Miss Universe Organization with NBC, would not say what Kentucky native Tara Conner, 20, had done to prompt the serious evaluation.
"I can't really talk about it now," Trump said. "But we have to make a decision. There is no question about that."

Should the 5-foot-5 blonde be forced to give up her crown, African American runner up Tamiko Nash is next in line for the title.

TMZ.com reported that the Donald’s staff and NBC met Tuesday to discuss Conner's alleged bad behavior, "including her conduct at New York City bars."
According to Nash’s Web site bio, she is the 3rd African-American to hold the Miss California title in its history. She won the crown on September 11, 2005 in Palm Springs, California at the Riviera Resort and Racquet Club.
She earned her B.S. in Child and Family Development from San Diego State University. Upon graduation, she served as an elementary school teacher at Birdrock Elementary in La Jolla, California.
Nash is a native of Los Angeles and currently works for The Recording Academy known worldwide for its Grammy Awards. For those that didn't realize, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter's birthday falls on December 4, which happens to be the same day Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity falls on. (I didn't realize this until recently.) I got a rumor from a person purporting to be an Alpha insider. This person told me that Jay-Z is going to be made into an honorary Alpha should the rapper accept. JADA PINKETT SMITH DONATES 1 MILLION DOLLARS TO ARTS SCHOOL

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith donated $1 million to the Baltimore School for the Arts, the high school which she and the late Tupac Shakur attended.
The school, from which Pinkett Smith graduated in 1989, announced the donation for a renovation and expansion on Monday (Dec. 11), and said it will name its new theater after Shakur at Pinkett Smith's request.
The donation comes from the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation, which is based in Baltimore. The couple had previously given $112,500 to the school.
When the $30 million expansion program is finished in the fall of 2007, the school will increase its enrollment from 316 to 375 students.
"It means a lot when you're a teacher and your most famous alumnus comes back to give a donation," said Donald Hicken, head of the school's theater department since its founding in 1980 and Pinkett Smith's former theater teacher. "It really says a lot to the community that the school matters in people's lives."

A producer coaxed the crowd into cheering loudly for the camera, and parts of the ceremony had to be repeated several times for the TV cameras.
Estrada carried a gun but rarely used it to stop bad guys in his 1970s motorcycle-cops drama.
He also appeared in VH1's "Surreal Life" in 2004. Osbourne, 21, son of rocker Ozzy Osbourne, was on the MTV's "The Osbournes." Wee Man, 33, a 4-foot-7 skateboarder, gained fame on the MTV show "Jackass."
Jackson, 50, a singer and sister of Michael and Janet Jackson, is a native of Gary, and Stratus is a former WWE professional wrestler.

DAMON WAYANS BANNED FOR USING N-WORD @ LAUGH FACTORY

Looks like Damon Wayans has become the first casualty of the Laugh Factory’s newly-instituted N-word free zone.
The comedian used the term 16 times during his 20-minute set Sunday night and was promptly banned from performing at the venue for the next three months, reports the LA Times.
Wayans’ act referred to the racist rant of “Seinfeld” star Michael Richards that caused the N-word ban to be instituted.
"I'll be damned if the white man uses that word last. …This is part of our culture now...don't take that from us," Wayans told the audience. The actor was also fined $320 for his routine - $20 for each time he used the word.

BARACK OBAMA AND LUDARIS: A MEETING OF THE MINDS

Barack Obama is coming for that Number One Spot. The senator, contemplating a run for president, met privately with Ludacris on Wednesday. "We talked about empowering the youth," said the rapper, whose real name is Chris Bridges.

Ludacris was in town to launch the YouthAIDS "Kick Me" campaign to raise HIV/AIDS awareness during a stop at Northwestern University in the Chicago suburb of Evanston.

The meeting at Obama's downtown Chicago office was a meeting of two star powers: Obama, who enjoys rock star-like status on the political scene, and Ludacris, a music superstar and budding actor.

They both have won Grammy awards: Obama for readings from his memoir, "Dreams From My Father," and Luda for his verse on Usher's "Yeah!"

Bridges said meeting Obama, known for his warm personal style, was like meeting with a relative. Obama declined to comment after their meeting, but walked with Bridges to the elevator as he left.

MICHAEL RICHARDS TO APOLOGIZE TO OFFENDED CLUB MEMBERS

Michael Richards will apologize in person to the four black men he targeted in a tirade of racial slurs during a recent comedy club performance.
A retired judge will mediate the meeting and determine whether he should take any other action to resolve the matter, Richards' spokesman and an attorney for the men said Friday.
A cash settlement could be part of the resolution, said Howard J. Rubenstein, who represents Richards.
"My client Michael hopes to put it behind him," Rubenstein said.
A time and place for the meeting has not been set.
Rubenstein complimented attorney Gloria Allred, who is representing the four comedy club patrons, for recommending the meeting.
Allred said Richards should meet with her clients "to hear the pain that he inflicted on them and to apologize to them."
She and the four men were scheduled to hold a press conference later Friday.
