KEVIN FEDERLINE GAVE BRITANY SPEARS AN ULTIMATUM....SO SHE WENT BACK TO REHAB
Britney Spears caused a case of mass whiplash when she bolted from rehab after less than 24 hours – then checked back in days later. The reason for the quick turnaround? An ultimatum from Kevin Federline, a source tells PEOPLE. Upset by the news that Spears had checked out of Promises in Malibu on Wednesday, Federline and lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan scheduled an emergency hearing to seek physical and legal custody of their sons Sean Preston, 18 months, and Jayden James, 6 months, says a source. Ultimately, Federline, 28, gave his estranged wife a choice: Either she got back into Promises that night or Federline would go to court in the morning, says the source. (Spears, 25, had since January had custody of the boys, with visitation for Federline, thanks to a temporary court order issued after she filed for divorce in November.) At about 7 p.m. that night, Spears, driven by a friend, showed up outside Federline's home in Tarzana, Calif. – followed by some 20 paparazzi. Federline failed to appear, so she left.

FANTASIA BARRINO PLAYS MISS CELIE ON BROADWAY
Not only did she belt a re-orchestrated version of Celie’s song "I'm Here" on Thursday’s “Idol” results show, but the High Point, N.C. native also brought along one of the musical’s producers, Quincy Jones, to help promote the new gig.
As previously reported, rumors of Fantasia’s casting were in the air even as producers announced last weekend that Kenita R. Miller would take over the role originated by LaChanze and continued by Jeannette Bayardelle. Miller’s run began on Feb. 19th, and she’ll continue to “shake her shimmy” until Fantasia is passed the baton on April 10.

AL SHARPTON ANCESTORS OWNED BY STROM THURMOND'S ANCESTORS
The U.S. Rev. Al Sharpton is a descendant of a slave owned by relatives of the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond -- a discovery the civil rights activist called "shocking" on Sunday.
Sharpton learned of his connection to Thurmond, once a prominent defender of segregation, last week through the Daily News, which asked genealogists to trace his roots.
"It was probably the most shocking thing in my life," Sharpton said at a news conference Sunday, the same day the tabloid revealed the story.
Some of Thurmond's relatives said the nexus also came as a surprise to them. Doris Strom Costner, a distant cousin who said she knew the late senator all her life, said Sunday she "never heard of such a thing."
"My momma never would talk to me about nothing like that," Costner said of ancestors who owned slaves. "She only talked to me about good things."
The revelations surfaced after Ancestry.com contacted a Daily News reporter who agreed to have his own family tree done. The intrigued reporter then turned around and asked Sharpton if he wanted to participate. Sharpton said he told the paper, "Go for it."
The genealogists, who were not paid by the newspaper, uncovered the ancestral ties using a variety of documents that included census, marriage and death records.
They found that Sharpton's great-grandfather, Coleman Sharpton, was a slave owned by Julia Thurmond, whose grandfather was Strom Thurmond's great-great-grandfather. Coleman Sharpton was later freed.

ANIKA NONI ROSE WEARS $500K STUART WEITZMAN DIAMOND DREAM SHOE
Rose digs Weitzman's heels because "they're so comfortable, so when they asked me if I wanted to do it, I said absolutely." Her silver stiletto, worth $500,000, is adorned with 30 carats' worth of Kwiat diamonds.
Rose says she's not nervous about losing any of the rocks. "I'm sure someone will be standing next to me with a net and a metal detector in case one falls off," she says with a laugh.
And yes, she relishes her moment in the sun. Not being the center of attention earlier "doesn't take away from what I've done or my work or the experience I had making it. But," she emphasizes, "there are three of us."

FOXY BROWN ARRESTED IN FLORIDA...DANG FOX BOOGIE
Rapper Foxy Brown was arrested in Florida and held overnight for battery and obstruction of justice, according to the arrest record and local newspaper reports on Friday.
Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was detained at a Pembroke Pines beauty-supply shop on Thursday night after a disturbance there, The Miami Herald newspaper said.
The arrest record of the Broward Sheriff's Office said she was held on $1,500 bail for the two offenses. It gave no further details.
The hip-hop artist was sentenced in New York last October to three years probation and anger management classes for assaulting two nail-salon stylists over a $20 manicure.

MARK CURRY TALKS HIS NEAR DEATH TRAGEDY ON MONTELL WILLIAMS
The 'Hangin' with Mr. Cooper' star said he lived through a freak accident last spring when he inadvertently knocked an aerosol can of spray starch off a shelf, in his California home.
According to Curry, the can hit a metal wall bracket that connected the water heater to a wall and ruptured, causing an explosion and a fire that engulfed him.
He suffered second degree burns over 18% of his body and spent three days in a medically induced coma.
"It was so bad, I didn't think about it--the pain was so excruciating that I just threw it out. I wanted to kill myself," he revealed to Williams. "By the 4th day, I said, 'I can't do this.' I felt less than a man. I couldn't even look at my own body. I saw my hand with the peeling skin and threw up and I didn't look at myself again."
Curry, who had a memorable role on Kirstie Alley's short-lived reality based Showtime series 'Fat Actress,' says support from fellow comedians helped to lift his spirits and that, coupled with the love and encouragement from his family, made him want to live again.
BRANDY HIT WITH SECOND SUIT
:: AD ::
Paul Phillips, the high-powered litigator who successfully represented Erin Brokovich, is seeking unspecified damages on behalf of Aboudiha's two children.
"Our clients are obviously devastated by this tragedy," said Philips. "Their lives are upside down, and as children they're really finding themselves having to deal with a loss they don't even fully comprehend yet... "These kids lost their mother. To them, she was priceless."
The suit accuses Brandy of operating her vehicle in a reckless manner and causing the death of 38-year-old Aboudiha.
PAULA ABDUL IS NOT A DRUNK
That's nonsense, the 44-year-old "Idol" judge tells Us Weekly magazine in its February 16 issue. "I've never been drunk. I have never done recreational drugs," she says. "Just look at my 20-year career. Tell me someone who is into partying or doing drugs that could have done that."
In her five years on "Idol," Abdul -- a singer and a movie, TV and stage choreographer -- has weathered criticism about her sometimes odd behavior, which has included slurred and garbled speech, and her not-so-subtle gushing over the show's young, male singers.
"There have been 100 million lies about me," says Abdul, who has said she's taken prescription medication for health problems, including inflammatory arthritis. "I'm squeaky clean. I've worked my ass off my entire life. (But) being involved in the show causes people to question everything."
TONI BRAXTON SETTLES WITH AALIYAH'S UNCLE
Toni Braxton has settled her multimillion-dollar lawsuit against her former personal manager, representatives of both parties said.
Under the settlement, the 39-year-old R&B singer is free to pursue new projects following her return of a $375,000 advance to manager Barry Hankerson, Braxton representative Michael Sitrick said Tuesday.
Hankerson had previously demanded an additional $1 million to provide the singer with only a partial release from her contract, Sitrick said.
A Hankerson attorney, Samuel Chilakos, disputed that description of the settlement, saying he was unaware of a demand for additional funds and that the agreement limits the companies with which Braxton can work.
Braxton's lawsuit claimed that Hankerson owed her at least $10 million for dirty dealing that caused her to abandon a long relationship with Arista Records, a Sony BMG Music Entertainment label, for Blackground Records, the manager's record label.
The lawsuit accused the manager of putting his financial interests ahead of Braxton's and inducing the singer to leave a lucrative deal with Arista through fraud, deception and double-dealing.
Hankerson on Tuesday disputed those allegations.
"She was dropped from Arista because of record sales," he said, adding that Braxton did not want to move to Blackground Records but "there was nowhere else for her to go."
He said his relationship with the singer soured because of her insistence that she involve her husband in her albums.
Braxton's 1993 debut album, "Toni Braxton," rose to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. Braxton received the Grammy Award for best new artist in 1993, and she won Grammys that year and the next for best female R&B vocal performance.
BEYONCE COVERS SPORTS ILLUSTRATED
Another high note for Beyonce - the coveted cover shot of this year's Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
The singer and now movie star ("Dreamgirls") posed on a Florida beach in a yellow-and-pink bikini by House of Dereon, the fashion label she started with her mother, Tina Knowles. There's also a photo spread inside.
"The Dreamgirl As You've Never Seen Her," a cover headline teases.
The 2007 swimsuit edition continues with a music theme inside, featuring scantily-clad models posing with Kanye West, Aerosmith, Kenny Chesney, Gnarls Barkley and Panic! At the Disco for the camera of lensman Steve Erle.

IKE TURNER WINS FIRST GRAMMY..

Rock 'n' roll pioneer Ike Turner, whose musical achievements were largely overshadowed by the notoriety he received after his former wife and recording partner Tina Turner said he had abused her, won his first Grammy Award since 1972 on Sunday.
The 75-year-old R&B veteran took home the traditional blues album award for "Risin' with the Blues." He won his only other Grammy -- shared with Tina Turner -- in 1972 for their cover of "Proud Mary."
Also nominated were Tab Benoit with Louisiana's Leroux, Dion, James Hunter and Duke Robillard.
"I'm scared to death," Turner said in accepting the award, accompanied by his son, Ike Jr.
Turner helped pioneer rock 'n' roll in 1951 when his band the Rhythm Kings recorded the song "Rocket 88," a tune widely regarded as the first record in the nascent genre. (The Chess Records release was credited to the band's saxophone player Jackie Brenston "and his Delta Cats.")
As a guitarist and pianist, Turner played with the likes of B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon in the 1950s. He married Annie Mae Bullock in 1958, she changed her name to Tina, and they enjoyed such hits as "River Deep, Mountain High," "Proud Mary" and "Nutbush City Limits."

GERALD LEVERT DEATH RULED ACCIDENTAL
Singer Gerald Levert's death last November has been ruled accidental, caused by a combination of prescription narcotics and over-the-counter drugs, a Cleveland area coroner said.
The drugs in his bloodstream included the narcotic pain relievers Vicodin, Percocet and Darvocet, along with anxiety medication Xanax and two over-the-counter antihistamines, Geauga County Coroner Kevin Chartrand said.
The official cause of death was acute intoxication, and the death was ruled accidental.
Levert, 40, son of O'Jays singer Eddie Levert, died Nov. 10 in his suburban Cleveland home.
The album ("In My Songs") that Levert was working on before his untimely death, will be released this Tuesday.
The title track laments Levert's situation as a singer of love songs who longs for a love of his own.

JERMAINE DUPRI NEW PRESIDENT OF ISLAND DEF JAM RECORDS
Just a couple of months ago, he bolted from his ill-fated gig heading up urban music at Virgin Records.
Today, it was announced that hip-hop super-producer Jermaine Dupri has been appointed president of Island Records Urban Music, a new division of the Island Def Jam Music Group.
As part of the "new deal," Dupri will oversee Island's entire urban music operation, reporting directly to Island Def Jam Music Group Chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid and Island Records/COO President Steve Bartels.
Label spokesperson Laura Swanson said he will be based in Atlanta and New York.
"I'm so excited to be reunited with L.A. Reid because most of my biggest hits were when he and I worked together," Dupri, who worked with Reid during his tenure at Arista Records -- and also produced many of his biggest acts, including TLC, Toni Braxton and Mariah Carey . "And then to be working side by side with Steve Bartels -- I don't think there's a better team because he's by far the best in the game. I can't wait for us to start stuntin' on y'all."

BREAKING NEWS: ANNA NICOLE SMITH HAS DIED
Smith, 39, collapsed at a south Florida hotel, according to news reports.
"I can confirm that she is deceased. It's as shocking to me as to you guys," Smith's attorney, Ronald Rale, told Reuters. "I don't know anything further. [Her lawyer and husband] Howard [K. Stern], obviously, is speechless and grieving."
Smith's nurse called Seminole Hard Rock Hotel workers at 1:38 p.m. and security went to the room, hotel officials said. Fire rescue workers from both the Seminole Indian tribe and from Hollywood Fire-Rescue arrived minutes later and Smith was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood at 2:10 p.m.
Smith was involved in a paternity suit regarding the parentage of her daughter, Danielynn, as well as other disputes, including some regarding a house she stayed at in the Bahamas around the time she gave birth.
