HALLE BERRY SAID SHE TRIED TO TAKE HER LIFE AFTER DIVORCE
Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry says in a magazine interview that she was so depressed after her 1997 breakup with ex-husband and baseball star David Justice that she tried to take her own life.
In this coming Sunday's issue of Parade magazine, Berry says that since then and following a second divorce, she has learned to take control of her own life and now, at age 40, is considering motherhood.
"I was sitting in my car, and I knew the gas was coming when I had an image of my mother finding me," Berry says of the suicide attempt. "She sacrificed so much for her children, and to end my life would be an incredibly selfish thing to do.
"My sense of worth was so low. I had to reprogram myself to see the good in me. Because someone didn't love me didn't mean I was unlovable. I promised myself I would never be a coward again," Berry tells Parade.
Her roles have ranged from the beautiful secret agent Jinx in the James Bond movie "Die Another Day" to the down-on-her-luck waitress in 2001's "Monster's Ball," which won her the best actress Oscar.
She was married to Justice for nearly five years in the early 1990s before her star began to rise after portraying singer/actress Dorothy Dandridge in the 1999 television movie "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge."
Berry's second marriage to singer Eric Benet lasted four years until 2005, when they divorced in a highly publicized breakup.

He was going through a breakup with his then wife, with whom he had his eldest three children, when his cousin Pep, who was working security at a school in Long Island, ran into Justine’s little sister. Pep began bragging, “Run’s my cousin,” the way he often did, to which Justine’s sister replied, “So what? My sister used to go with him.” Pep called Run to confirm, and Run seized the opportunity to reconnect. “I’m thinking, Perfect!” he recalls. “I just needed to lose five, ten pounds before I called her, which I did. The rest is history.” Justine beams while her husband tells this story. “As soon as I heard him say ‘Hi,’ I just melted,” she says. “He sounded so sweet and innocent. I just wanted to take care of him. Then he introduced me to his kids, and, gosh, I just fell in love.” Run says the feelings were mutual. “Justine is so warm and selfless, these kids were running into a daggone hurricane of kisses and hugs and putting on their mittens,” he says. “Nothing against their mother, but with Justine it was just love, love, love, love, love, love.”

CHP officer Leland Tang said Fox, 42, was stopped Tuesday night around 11pm after her Cadillac SRX passed a patrol car on the Hollywood Freeway at 80 mph — 15 miles above the speed limit.
Fox was arrested after failing a field sobriety test, he said. She was taken to Van Nuys jail and submitted to two breathalyzer tests.
"The test results indicate her blood-alcohol level was greater than .08 percent," the legal limit in California, Tang told the AP. Fox was cited and released, and authorities will submit the case to the Los Angeles City Attorney's office. Calls placed to Fox's management were not returned by EUR's deadline time.

The pop star checked out of the Promises Malibu Alcohol and Drug Rehab Treatment Facility on Tuesday, her manager, Larry Rudolph, said in a statement released by Jive Records.
Spears, 25, entered the facility for the long haul on Feb. 22, after first checking in on Feb. 20, then back out a day later. She also spent a day at the Crossroads Centre in Antigua, but again left within 24 hours.
The third time around, she stuck with the program.
"Spears has been released by the Promises Malibu Treatment Center after successfully completing their program," Rudolph said, asking that the singer's privacy be respected.

Bernie Mac told David Letterman during an appearance on The Late Show Monday that, after he finishes shooting the performance film The Whole Truth, Nothing but the Truth, So Help Me Mac, he's going to retire from standup comedy.

VANESSA WILLIAMS CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY WITH A STAR
Williams received the 2,331st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Fellow cast members from the TV show "Ugly Betty," in which she plays a villainous magazine editor, showed up to cheer for her at the ceremony in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
"We were so happy to get Vanessa," said Salma Hayek, the show's executive producer. "She is brilliant because she is so nasty on the show, but in reality she is the sweetest person."
Williams stepped down as the first black Miss America in 1984 after Penthouse magazine published nude, sexually explicit photographs of her taken several years earlier. In the years since, she has sung on Broadway, released Grammy-nominated albums and acted on screens both big and small.
On Monday, she thanked fellow "Betty" cast members for attending the ceremony on their day off.
"I love working with these people," she said. "I also want to thank my family for allowing me to live my dreams. The sun didn't shine today, but my heart is shining."
Others who attended the ceremony included producer Peter Gruber, "Betty" co-star Rebecca Romijn and Williams' brother, Chris, a cast member on the new Fox series "The Wedding Bells."

Naomi Campbell, wearing black stilettos and slinging dark work boots over her shoulder, traded the catwalk for community service Monday at a sanitation garage to start a five-day sentence for assaulting her maid.The 36-year-old supermodel arrived at the Manhattan District 3 Garage at Pier 36 on the Hudson in a black sport utility vehicle. She'll be pushing a broom or mop at the garage for her guilty plea to misdemeanor assault for throwing a cell phone at her maid over a pair of missing jeans.
Campbell was met by a garage official who escorted her through the building's dirty, steel double doors. She also wore chocolate brown pants, a short fitted coat with a flared bottom, dark sunglasses and a newsboy-type cap over a short hairdo.
She didn't acknowledge the horde of assembled media.
"Miss Campbell arrived on time to work. She came ready to work," Albert Durrell, deputy chief of the Department of Sanitation, told reporters at a briefing outside the facility.
It's the same sanitation depot where former Culture Club frontman Boy George performed his five-day community service stint in August. He pleaded guilty for falsely reporting a burglary at his lower Manhattan apartment. The responding officers found cocaine instead.
Unlike George, who performed his duties outdoors in full view of TV cameras, Campbell will work inside the garage. She was issued protective gloves, dust mask and reflective orange vest.
"We have plenty of work for her to do over the next five days," Durrell said.
Because of her celebrity status, sanitation police officers will be stationed at each entrance of the facility, Durrell said.

The curvy superstar has been busted on 16 traffic violations in New York in less than three years, according to state DMV officials.
Brown's been cited for everything from blowing red lights to weaving across lanes of traffic without signaling, officials said.
Can anybody say "Call a limo, Foxy"? The platinum-selling rapper shows up for court dates wearing hot designer dresses and toting $1,000 handbags. But she somehow can't find a way to pay New York State $4,780 in fines and surcharges, the Department of Motor Vehicles said.
What's more, the DMV says Brown shouldn't be behind the wheel at all. She's also been hit with citations for operating without a license, insurance or an inspection.
Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, has only a learner's permit in New York State.

DISNEY'S FIRST BLACK PRINCESS "THE FROG PRINCESS"
The Walt Disney Co. has started production on an animated musical fairy tale called “The Frog Princess,” which will be set in New Orleans and feature the Walt Disney Studio’s first black princess.
The film, set for release in 2009, also is the first hand-drawn film Disney has committed to since pledging last month to return to the traditional animation that made it a worldwide brand.
“The Frog Princess,” a musical scored by composer Randy Newman, is “an American fairy tale” starring a girl named Maddy who lives in the French Quarter in New Orleans, said John Lasseter, chief creative director for Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.
Disney did not provide details of the plot, but the company showed shareholders preliminary drawings from the movie. Newman and a jazz band played a song from the movie’s score.
Maddy joins eight other Disney princess characters, who have generated $3 billion in global retail sales since 1999. Disney Princesses is the fastest-growing brand for the company’s Consumer Products division.
Disney introduced its first non-white animated heroine in 1992's “Aladdin”: a Middle Eastern character named Jasmine. Three years later an American Indian princess appeared in “Pocahontas.”

American Idol" viewers squashed the dreams of four more aspiring singers Thursday night, but Antonella Barba, the focus of recent attention over some racy Internet photos, was not one of them.
Alaina Alexander, Leslie Hunt, Nicholas Pedro and A.J. Tabaldo were voted off in the phone ballotting, which drew about 32 million calls and text messages. Sixteen hopefuls remain of the 24 who began the elimination rounds.
Perhaps the night's biggest surprise was that 20-year-old Barba, of Point Pleasant, N.J., was staying. "I thought you were worse than last week," Simon Cowell said Wednesday after her less-than-stellar cover of Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me."
A close friend of Barba has denied she was the subject of some graphically sexual pictures purported to be of her that were posted on the Internet last week.
Another surprise: The early elimination of the talented Tabaldo, 22, who gave a rousing rendition of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good." Paula Abdul couldn't hide her disappointment.
"Truthfully, this is a singing competition," Abdul said Thursday. "I don't feel tonight reflects this."

Bobby Brown is a free man, thanks to a Washington, D.C. radio station.
Hot 99.5 told Access Hollywood they posted the $19,150 in late child support and court fees for Bobby on Wednesday night with one catch - the former "New Ediiton" star has to work for the radio station for one week.
The radio station approached Bobby and his lawyers with the offer on Wednesday, and both sides agreed to the deal after Bobby had spent three nights in the Norfolk County Jail.
"Bobby Brown is not only a multi-platinum artist, he's also a person.We wanted to use his celebrity to spotlight responsibility.Parents have an obligation to their children. Bobby has a fresh start and a chance to make things right.We're excited about having Bobby in Washington and on Hot 99.5 and being the first step in turning things around," Hot 99.5 DJ Kane told Access Hollywood.
Bobby will start his stint at the station next week.

FOXY BROWN GETS ONE MORE CHANCE
Foxy Brown, warned by a judge that her next probation offense would be her last, was allowed to remain free Thursday after she pleaded guilty to violating probation by leaving New York without permission.
Brown was arrested during a fracas at a beauty supply store in Pembroke Pines, Fla., on Feb. 15. Police charged her with resisting an officer and simple battery.
Lawyers for the Department of Probation and the Manhattan district attorney's office urged Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson to jail the 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Inga Marchand. Both, in effect, called her incorrigible. But Jackson said, "If she pleads guilty to leaving the jurisdiction without permission, I will allow her to continue on probation with the condition that on the next violation, she's getting resentenced."
"I'm going to give her basically what is a third chance," the judge said. "I'm going to give her one more chance — three strikes and you're out. Basically, I'll be giving the keys to the jailhouse to Ms. Marchand."
"I'm reserving the right to resentence you to jail for a year," Jackson told Brown. "You have the key, but that key will be taken away from you in a flash" if the rapper commits another violation.
