Mychal Bell exited the courthouse, free for the first time in 10 months. He was cheered by a crowd that included the Rev. Al Sharpton.
But Bell's case is far from over: he's due back in court next week.
The prosecution of Bell, one of the black teenagers known as the Jena Six, led to a massive civil rights demonstration last week, bringing activists Sharpton, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Martin Luther King III to this tiny central Louisiana town.
Bell was released on $45,000 bail Thursday after the prosecutor dropped an attempt to try the 17-year-old as an adult on charges of aggravated second-degree battery in the beating of a white classmate.
He is scheduled to return to the courthouse Tuesday, his lawyer said, for the first hearing in his prosecution as a juvenile.
"Tonight Mychal can go home. But Mychal is not out of the juvenile process," Sharpton said Thursday, standing next to Bell at a news conference in front of the courthouse.
District Attorney Reed Walters' decision to abandon adult charges means that Bell, who had faced a maximum of 15 years in prison on his aggravated second-degree battery conviction last month, instead could be held only until he turns 21 if he is found guilty in juvenile court.

Alvin and The Chipmunks!!!!! WOW! I remember this cartoon when I was just a little girl. This was my joint. I'm going to keep an open mind about the movie. The trailer makes it look like a very interesting movie. I'm just so excited about it. The movie will be out December 14, 2007.

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of ‘Sex and the City: The Movie’, which begins filming next week in New York.
Hudson will play the assistant to Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw, in the film based on the hit HBO comedy series. Chris Noth has also joined the cast to reprise his role as Mr Big. Michael Patrick King is writing and directing the movie.

Juanita Bynum in an exclusive interview with Fox 5 Atlanta announces that she has given the go ahead for her lawyer to file divorce papers. She also saids that this is not the first time they have gotten into a physical altercation. Bynum actually said she thought that it was ok for them to push and shove. ?????? Though you are out holding conferences for women to be strong and you putting up with craziness at your house...??? Dont get me started...
But she also saids this is the first time it escalated to that magnitude. I believe she needs to take a break from preaching and seek guidance herself.

Guess what happened the day my column ran last week declaring that actress
Malinda Williams and her boyfriend, deejay/photographer D-Nice were not engaged?
He actually popped the question! On Monday, August 27, D-Nice went to
Hillsborough, N.J. to ask Williams' father, Frederick Williams, for his
blessing. After getting his blessing, he flew to Los Angeles and asked Williams
to marry him, her publicist Lisa Sorenson confirmed. Williams was previously
married to actor Mekhi Phifer and the two have a 7-year-old son. D-Nice has an
11-year-old daughter.
'America's Next Top Model' winner Eva Marcel Pigford is dating 'House of
Payne' star Lance Gross. The couple appeared together at award-winning Hollywood
producer Robi Reed's annual summer cookout, this year at the Los Angeles home of
Judge Greg Mathis. "They look very much in love," said one guest. Gross will
