Katherine Jackson petitions for custody of Michael Jackson's kids
Michael Jackson's mother filed a petition Monday in Los Angeles Probate Court seeking legal guardianship of her son's three children, CNN has confirmed.
A hearing was scheduled for August 3 on Katherine Jackson's petition.
Michael Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, told CNN on Sunday evening that he and his wife expected to keep the children.
"We're not trying to get custody," Jackson said. "We will get custody and have custody."

Oxi Clean Pitchman Billy Mays dies
Infomercial pitchman Billy Mays died at his Tampa, Florida, home Sunday morning.
The 50-year-old known for his shouting OxiClean ads was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m. The Hillsborough County medical examiner will perform an autopsy, Tampa police Lt. Brian Dugan said.
Mays was on the US Airways flight from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Tampa on Saturday that had a hard landing at Tampa International Airport when the plane's front tire blew out. There were no reported injuries on Flight 1241, US Airways told CNN. According to a local Tampa TV station, Mays said: "All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping. It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."

JILL SCOTT: No pressure, but I'm excited. It's definitely something I dreamt about, and if it comes to fruition then that's wonderful. In regards to expecting the acclaim, I wish I was that forward thinking. We were just there doing a good job, and after the show was done we thought, Well, maybe. I am proud of the work that we did.
ESSENCE.COM: Does this Hollywood success mean your music fans won't hear your angelic voice anytime soon?
SCOTT: As much as I take a break, music never gives up on me. I have to write, sing, listen to my iPod, and that inspires me to create. It's a part of me that I don't ever want to go away, no matter what else I do, so I'd say that you can expect a new CD possibly this year, I hope.
ESSENCE.COM: Congrats to you on your new bundle of joy, Jett Hamilton. How has motherhood been treating you?
SCOTT: Wonderful. I named him after a black gemstone that my makeup artist in Africa had; it was simply called Jet, and I fell in love with it and the name because I thought my beautiful baby is a gem. I truly loved being pregnant and feeling what was going on inside my body and watching it change. It's difficult to recoup but still amazing nonetheless. I would have another one.
ESSENCE.COM: Well, at least your hubby-to-be was there to support. How has he been adjusting to Jett?
SCOTT: Yes, he was there and for a couple of days afterwards while I stayed in hospital, but John and I are no longer together. When you have a baby you're dealing with a lot of emotions and I don't know how much of it had to do with us breaking up, but it happens. We definitely love our son and we are co-parenting and working on being friends. It is what it is. I have a lot of support, so I want for nothing as far as that's concerned. I know some might criticize me or the fact that my son is being raised in a single-parent home, but I wasn't raised in a two-parent home and I had a good relationship with my dad. I have hopes for him and I'm sure his father will do his part as well.

CHRIS BROWN PLEADS GUILTY
Brown's plea to a felony charge will subject him to substantial scrutiny by probation officials, and the judge's order puts the kibosh on any short-term prospects for reconciliation with his pop diva girlfriend as well.
The guilty plea came before a preliminary hearing was scheduled to start. The hearing had been billed for weeks as a public face-off between the pair, with Rihanna set to testify against her one-time boyfriend.
Instead, Brown averted the potentially damaging meeting by entering a plea that will subject him to probation for the next five years as well as force him to perform six months of community service.
Rihanna had not been seeking such an order, but the judge imposed one anyway. The order requires that Brown and Rihanna stay at least 50 yards from each, except at industry events when the distance is reduced to 10 yards.

Jamie: Did you love yourself the last time I talked to you, a couple of years ago?
Neffe: No, I was loving that ex-husband of mine.
Jamie: You were crying because you were upset about him being with your cousin.
Neffe: Yeah, I was still struggling and battling with the fact that I had lost my husband to my cousin. But it took years to figure this out: I didn’t lose him to her, I gave him to her.
Jamie: How did you do that?
Neffe: Well, I must say, thinking that he loved me and thinking that giving him anything that he asked for would be okay. So basically, having a threesome and thinking that that’s what we were supposed to do. Absolutely not. That didn’t work out.

CHRIS BROWN WANTS KERI HILSON
Hitmaking songwriter and singing superstar Keri Hilson tells us that Brown has asked for her help in the studio.
"He contacted me like four or five days ago," Hilson said earlier this week during a promotional appearance at Wet Seal in L.A.'s Beverly Center Mall. "Us working together will probably be the first project I've worked on as a songwriter in a while."
This wouldn't be the first time for the two…
They dueted on "Superhuman," plus Hilson wrote "Young Love," a track on Brown's debut album.
Despite Brown's alleged beatdown of Rihanna, Hilson thinks his fans may stick with him.
"It is unfortunate what they are going through, but I always feel like if you've ever had a fan base, you're really only one song away from appeasing that fan base," she said. "Whether that song is autobiographical or whether you want to talk about that or not, you're just one hit song away. And that's what I think of the industry in a nutshell."

MICHAEL STRAHAN PROPOSES
For onetime New York Giants star Michael Strahan, May 22 was a big day: He got engaged to Nicole Murphy – and learned that the pilot for his new TV show, Brothers, had been picked up.
"It was a pretty great day," Strahan's manager tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Strahan, 37, popped the question to Murphy (the ex-wife of actor Eddie Murphy) on a beach in the Bahamas with a stunning canary yellow and white diamond ring.
"I have a great relationship and she's a great girl," says Strahan, who is a father of four. "I don't like to talk much about my private life, but I'm really happy."
But he says that though they've talked about it, "There aren't any plans for kids… We've got nine between us already."

USHER AND TAMEKA LIVED APART FOR A YEAR
Court records show that Usher and Tameka Raymond were separated for nearly a year before the R&B singer filed for divorce, calling the marriage "irretrievably broken."
A divorce petition obtained by The Associated Press says the couple has lived separately since July. The two were married in a glitzy ceremony in August 2007, but split nearly a year later. The petition was filed Friday in Fulton County Superior Court.
The Raymonds have two young sons: 1 1/2-year-old Usher Raymond V and 6-month-old Naviyd Ely Raymond. Tameka Raymond has three children from a previous marriage.
The petition says there is "no reasonable hope of reconciliation" between Usher, 30, and Tameka Raymond, 38.
Usher is seeking joint custody of the children.
